Snow Load: rules and solutions

How to solve the problem of the snow on your roof?
In this article you'll find indications and solutions on how to prevent damage to houses, warehouses, tensile structures or other, caused by failure of the roofs due to heavy snowfalls or ice formation, and not necessarily in mountain locations. We often heat news about in injurious damage to buildings, for which, in most cases, an assessment of the safety of the coverage has not been made.

THE REGULATION

Since 2018, in Italy the NTC2018 legislation has been in force, which provides for the obligation to secure all structures for public use such as gyms, stadiums or warehouses from snow loads.
The legislation consists in guaranteeing the roof with a snow load weight capacity corresponding to what results from the NTC2018 calculation which varies according to the geographical position.

To increase and guarantee the load-bearing capacity of a roof, a reinforcement of the structure is almost always planned with the addition of columns and reinforcing beams for a quantity such as to guarantee a load-bearing capacity from 120 kg / m² to 180 kg / m² depending on the geographical position of intervention.
In calculating an intervention of this type, it is necessary to consider in addition to the project and the execution of the work, the non-negligible cost of the time in which this space must remain free for the intervention with interruption of the activities normally carried out in these spaces.

OUR SOLUTION

Thermal Technology, thanks to the carbon fiber heating technology, has studied the solutions for the snow load problem, that is the snow melting systems for roofs, which intervene directly in the roof in order to avoid the accumulation of snow, thus avoiding interventions structural and the block of the use of the structure with a substantial economic saving.

For each type of roof, Thermal Technology has studied the right product to obtain maximum efficiency both in operation and in assembly.
These systems are made NOT to cover the entire surface, but only the position necessary to adjust the coverage capacity to what results from the calculation by applying the Italian regulation NTC2018.

To find the most suitable types of snow melters for each type of roof, look at our snow melting systems for the roofs of industrial buildings and the snow melting systems for photovoltaic panels.

If the coverage of the intervention does not fall within the types presented, contact us describing the type of coverage and the most suitable solution for the type of intervention will be proposed.
